Âpre
Bitter

Sense : palate - Type: default
too hard due to too much or poor quality tannins (syn. astringent).

Aqueux
Aqueous

Sense : eye / palate - Type : default
not very concentrated and whose sensation is close to the consistency of water.

Aromatique
Aromatic

Sense : nose
intense at the olfactory level and characteristic of pronounced aromas.

Arôme
Aroma

Sense: nose (retro-olfactory)
volatile compound of a wine or spirit perceived by smell. If you are strict: reserved for odors perceived in the mouth via the retro-nasal route. Also used for grape odors as opposed to odors resulting from aging (bouquet).

Astringent
Astringent

Sense : palate
rasps the mucous membranes due to too many tannins. Acceptable for red wines rich in tannins which need to round out. Risk of drying out with aging.

Austère
Austere

not very aromatic, high in tannins or acidity. Typical of young wines.
